The Bigs Baby

Najeem Popal hauls in a pass in the Express' playoff win over the Anthem Federals.  The Express advanced to the USFLL Spring Championship game Monday, May 19th at Sunset Park.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm.  The Express will take on the Island Warriors, who are undefeated on the year.  The Warriors brought up the level of competition in the league.  But, recently, teams like the Federals and, especially the Express, have played them tough.  If that trend continues, the Express have a great chance of taking down the new kids in the league.  It should make for a great match up.

Longest Game Wrangler Ties Young Was the Express

The NFL will tell you that the longest playoff game in professional football history is the Chargers/Dolphins playoff game.  The fact of the matter is, the longest professional football playoff game was between the Michigan Panthers and the LA Express.  That game went into triple overtime before Mel Grey took it in.  The Panthers kicker missed three field goals earlier in overtime that would have ended the game.

The Express and the Wranglers have ties that go back to the inception of the USFL.  The Wranglers organization first looked to the city of San Diego, California before settling in Phoenix.  Now that the Express are spinning off from the WLV Wranglers, there's an even stronger tie. It seems like every time you see a photo of the LA Express, there's Steve Young in the middle of it.  As it turns out, he was pretty much the Los Angeles Express.  Before his arrival in 1984, the Express were the doormat of the USFL.  In his rookie season, he led the Express to the Playoffs and defeated the defending USFL Champion Michigan Panther in the first round.
