The NFL will
tell you that the longest playoff game in professional
football history is the Chargers/Dolphins playoff game.
The fact of the matter is, the longest professional
football playoff game was between the Michigan Panthers
and the LA Express. That game went into triple
overtime before Mel Grey took it in. The Panthers
kicker missed three field goals earlier in overtime that
would have ended the game. |
The Express
and the Wranglers have ties that go back to the
inception of the USFL. The Wranglers organization
first looked to the city of San Diego, California before
settling in Phoenix. Now that the Express are
spinning off from the WLV Wranglers, there's an even
stronger tie. |
It seems like every time
you see a photo of the LA Express, there's Steve Young
in the middle of it. As it turns out, he was
pretty much the Los Angeles Express. Before his
arrival in 1984, the Express were the doormat of the
USFL. In his rookie season, he led the Express to
the Playoffs and defeated the defending USFL Champion
Michigan Panther in the first round. |
